For teeth that cannot be repaired with a standard filling, but do not require a full dental crown, inlays and onlays can be used to restore their appearance and function. Both of these restoration methods leave teeth strong and durable, with their original structure and integrity still intact. We take great pride in providing top-quality inlays and onlays that look natural and offer excellent functionality.
An inlay is most often utilized when a tooth is damaged in such a way that prevents it from being properly repaired with a dental filling, but applying a full dental crown would be considered excessive. An inlay is applied to the chewing surface of a tooth, but it will not cover any of the tooth’s cusps. Instead, it only occupies the space inside these points. In most cases, teeth that have been repaired with inlays are stronger than teeth that have received standard fillings.
Onlays are differentiated from inlays in that they cover one or more of the cusps of a tooth’s chewing surface. Most onlays are bonded directly to these points. It is possible that an onlay will cover the entire chewing surface of a tooth. Onlays are usually provided when a tooth is damaged and cannot be fixed with a regular filling, but applying a complete dental crown is unnecessary. With proper care, an onlay that has been applied to a tooth should remain intact for life.
